Plumbing Training Program Benefits

  • We don’t just teach the basics; here you will learn the full scope of the plumbing trade. Students build the essential skills needed to succeed in the industry. You will gain a strong foundation in water supply, drainage, waste, and vent systems (DWV), as well as gas piping and fixture installation. The curriculum is heavily focused on the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC), ensuring you are prepared to navigate the complex regulations required for legal and safe installations in New Jersey. You will also perform rough-ins, troubleshooting, and repairs in residential and commercial scenarios, preparing you to adapt to the demands of the job. Students graduate field-ready with the knowledge to work with Copper, PEX, PVC, and Black Iron pipe.

  • Our program provides more hands-on training and smaller class sizes than other trade schools. Students gain direct experience working with the tools and materials used by professional plumbers. We place students in immersive learning environments that replicate real-world scenarios, utilizing our new 3-zone plumbing lab and 8 dedicated training stations to give you the confidence to overcome common obstacles on the job site. You will learn plumbing techniques such as soldering, brazing, threading pipe, and solvent welding while installing toilets, sinks, water heaters, and hydronic & steam heating systems. With our low 8-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, you receive individual coaching and support, ensuring you are fully prepared to succeed in the field.

  • We believe every graduate should start their plumbing career fully prepared. That is why each student receives a professional-grade personal tool bag filled with high-quality tools built to last. This is included in your tuition at no additional cost. The kit includes industry-standard essentials from top manufacturers such as Channellock tongue-and-groove pliers, pipe wrenches, tubing cutters, a torpedo level, and a tape measure, along with other critical hand tools. To help you reach this goal, you are instructed directly by Master Plumbers, each with over 30 years of field experience. As a New Jersey approved education sponsor, our program provides the state-recognized training hours required to register as an Apprentice, secure Journeyman status, and eventually sit for the Master Plumber exam. Plumbing Training Curriculum

Our plumbing training program includes a comprehensive curriculum of 16 core modules, designed to build the essential skills needed to start a plumbing career in New Jersey. The course covers the complete scope of residential and commercial systems, including plumbing code compliance, rough-in installation, water distribution, drainage, and fixture setting.

  • We start with the past, present, and future of the plumbing industry. Students learn the history, the definitions of potable water vs. sanitary waste, and how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing plumbing technology, preparing you for the next generation of smart plumbing systems.

  • Safety is your first responsibility on any plumbing job site. This module covers OSHA-10 standards, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for plumbers, confined space entry, and trenching safety. You will also learn Hazard Communication (HazCom) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to prevent injury when servicing energized plumbing equipment.

  • Gain expertise in the hardware of the plumbing profession. You will learn to identify and handle professional hand and power tools (like band saws and threading machines) and study the legal applications of every plumbing pipe, fitting, and valve allowed by code. This section also introduces general administrative regulations for plumbing projects.

  • Plumbing math is the language of precision. This module strips away the fear of math and focuses on specific plumbing applications: calculating offsets (45°/60° elbows), measuring pipe grade for drainage, and computing Drainage Fixture Units (DFU) to size plumbing systems correctly.

  • This is a major hands-on component of your plumbing training. You will learn the techniques to connect every major piping system, including soldering copper, gluing PVC/ABS, and using modern Pro-Press and PEX expansion fittings. It also covers joining methods for cast iron, ductile iron, and CSST gas plumbing piping.

  • Learn how to distribute clean, potable water through residential and commercial plumbing systems. This module covers the installation of water heaters, mixing valves, and Anti-Scald valves. Crucially, it covers public health protection through Backflow Prevention (RPZ) and ASHRAE 188 standards for managing Legionella bacteria in building water systems.

  • The "sanitary" side of plumbing. Students learn the physics of removing wastewater safely. Topics include installing P-traps to block sewer gas, sizing plumbing vent stacks to protect trap seals, and understanding the flow of waste in residential plumbing layouts.

  • Distinct from sanitary waste, storm water requires specific plumbing management. You will learn to calculate rainfall rates and size storm drainage systems for roofs and parking lots. The module also covers Sewer Treatment concepts and environmental protection standards for discharging effluent from plumbing systems.

  • Gas plumbing requires high-level precision. This module teaches the threading and installation of black iron pipe for Natural Gas and Propane (LPG). Students learn to size gas plumbing piping using BTU load charts and apply proper sealants to ensure leak-free, code-compliant gas delivery.

  • Modern plumbing requires electrical knowledge. This unit covers low-voltage controls, float switches, and alarm wiring for sump pumps and sewage ejectors. You will learn basic circuit safety and troubleshooting for staged plumbing equipment.

  • An introduction to heating plumbing. Students examine how boilers generate heat (via steam or hot water) and distribute it through plumbing piping networks. You will learn the applications for radiators, baseboards, and radiant floor heating systems.

  • This module covers the proper spacing and installation of hangers to secure plumbing pipes, as well as insulation techniques for thermal efficiency. Students will learn to identify suspect materials, including asbestos, and follow the mandatory safety protocols for reporting and isolating hazards to ensure job site safety.. We also cover Firestopping, the code requirement for sealing penetrations in fire-rated walls to prevent the spread of smoke and flame.

  • From rough-in to finish. Students learn to interpret plumbing blueprints, draft isometric sketches, and use symbols to plan a job effectively. The module transitions to "trim work," teaching the proper installation of toilets, sinks, faucets, and shower valves to complete a plumbing installation.

  • Compliance is the backbone of the trade. This comprehensive module anchors your training in the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and 2024 National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC), while reviewing the International Plumbing Code (IPC) for neighboring NY and PA markets. You will navigate critical regulatory frameworks including ADA accessibility, NJDEP environmental standards, and ASHRAE 188 for Legionella control. We also drill down into OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction) safety standards and the recent 2024–2026 code updates, covering new mandates for tracer wire, vacuum testing, chemical waste piping, and protection from expansive soils.

  • The roadmap to your plumbing license. We break down the exact steps to move from Plumber's Helper to Apprentice, and finally to Journeyman and Licensed Master Plumber. You will leave understanding the state requirements and the business opportunities available to licensed plumbing professionals in New Jersey.

  • Develop advanced skills for the critical systems found in commercial, industrial, and healthcare settings. This module covers "Indirect Waste" piping protocols required for food handling and sterile environments to prevent cross-contamination. You will learn the life-safety installation standards for Emergency Eyewash and Shower Stations (ANSI/ISEA Z358.1) mandated by OSHA. Finally, we cover the rigorous NSPC requirements for testing new installations, teaching you how to perform hydrostatic, air pressure, and smoke tests to ensure every system is leak-free and inspection-ready.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Yes, the demand for plumbers in New Jersey is at an all-time high. With an aging workforce retiring, there is a shortage of skilled tradespeople, which drives up wages and job security. It is a recession-resistant career that offers high earning potential without the debt of a four-year college degree.

  • To become a licensed plumber in New Jersey, you must combine approved education with field experience. The state requires you to complete 576 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI), typically 144 hours per year, while simultaneously accruing 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a sponsoring Master Plumber. After fulfilling these requirements and working an additional year as a Journeyman, you qualify to take the Master Plumber license exam.

  • Yes. This program is officially approved and delivered under a Continuing Education Sponsor (NJ Master Plumbers Board Sponsor) registered with the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers. This approval confirms that the curriculum meets state regulations and that the training hours earned count toward the education requirements for plumbing apprenticeship registration and long-term licensure in New Jersey.

  • You need basic math skills, but you do not need to be a mathematician. Our program teaches you the specific "trade math" you actually need for the job, such as reading a tape measure, calculating pipe angles, and simple fractions. We break it down so it is easy to understand and apply.

  • The total tuition for the program is $15,000. This all-inclusive cost covers your books, training materials, certification exam fees, and a professional-grade tool bag that is yours to keep. We also offer flexible payment options to ensure the program remains accessible.

  • The program takes 11 months to complete. This accelerated timeline allows you to finish your training and enter the workforce as a skilled plumbing apprentice in less than a year.

  • It is both. The curriculum totals 346 hours, consisting of 114 hours of online classroom lessons and 232 hours of in-person hands-on training at our Branchburg plumbing lab. This structure gives you the flexibility to continue working while you learn

  • We provide dedicated job placement support designed to help you get hired as an apprentice. This includes resume building, interview prep, and connecting you with hiring partners. We actively build relationships with plumbing and mechanical companies across New Jersey to help graduates secure employment in the trade.

  • Our program covers both. Generally, a Plumber works on sanitary systems (water and waste) in homes and buildings, while a Pipefitter often works in industrial settings with high-pressure systems for steam, chemicals, or gas. Because our curriculum includes training on threading steel pipe, brazing, and reading commercial blueprints, you graduate with the skills to pursue apprenticeships in either path.
