Gold Seal Refrigeration Engineer 2-A Overview

The Red Seal Refrigeration 2-B license is required for refrigeration systems containing a toxic refrigerant and with a capacity over 300 tons.

Requirements: Gold Seal Refrigeration Engineer 2-A

• Applicants must work in a plant with over 300 tons of refrigeration capacity. This plant must contain a toxic refrigerant. Toxic Refrigerants include R-123 or R717 (ammonia).

• Applicants are required to have either two years of experience with a valid Red Seal 2-B (Toxic) Refrigeration license in a plant over 300 tons capacity or have served one year as Chief Engineer (CHE) in a Red Seal plant (toxic plant - 65-300 tons).

• Students must have completed our Blue and/or Red Seal Refrigeration Program.

Endorsements Required

The application will require a management endorsement and an engineering endorsement. These are engineers who hold a valid Blue, Red, or Gold Seal license.

Application and Test

Your application will include all your refrigeration information, which can be found on your refrigeration certificates of inspection (COIs) at your plant. These are typically posted on the wall near your equipment or in your glass case.

The New Jersey State Exam is a scantron-style, 50-question (multiple-choice) test. An 80% or better is required for a passing grade.
