Boiler Class Overview
Water chemistry is the foundation of every reliable, efficient, and safe boiler system. Our Boiler Water Chemistry Bootcamp is a comprehensive 1-day, in-person class held at our New Jersey training facility. This hands-on course focuses directly on field-ready water-treatment skills through structured lab work and instructor-led testing. You will gain the exact skills required to sample, test, interpret, and adjust boiler‑water programs to prevent scale, corrosion, and carryover. The curriculum covers real‑world scenarios focused on improving feed‑water quality, condensate protection, and the documentation habits that keep systems strictly within control limits. By the end of this class, you will be able to run accurate titration tests, evaluate the results, and make direct operational adjustments to your system. Build real-world chemical treatment skills taught by licensed professionals who bring their plant experience directly into the lab.
What You’ll Learn:
- Fundamentals of boiler-water chemistry and system reliability.
- Performing and interpreting core water-quality tests (pH, alkalinity, hardness, conductivity, sulfite, phosphate).
- Controlling scale, corrosion, and carryover through chemical feed and blowdown adjustments.
- Identifying and correcting water-side upsets or contamination issues.
- Optimizing treatment programs and monitoring cycles of concentration.
- Maintaining condensate quality and minimizing system losses.
- Recordkeeping, trending, and communicating results with vendors or supervisors.
Who Should Attend
Hands‑On Activities
In this class, students will practice the following boiler procedures:
- Guided demonstrations of sampling and water-testing procedures
- Interactive interpretation of test results and adjustment decisions
- Review of common failure samples and recovery strategies
Class Requirements
Class Topics and Modules
- Water-side fundamentals: impurities, hardness, pH, alkalinity, TDS/conductivity, oxygen/CO₂, cycles of concentration.
- Treatment programs: softeners, deaerators, oxygen scavengers (e.g. sulfite), phosphates, dispersants, amines.
- Equipment operation: chemical feed pumps, sample coolers, softeners, DA tanks, blowdown systems.
- Sampling and testing: when and where to sample, using meters and titration for pH, hardness, conductivity, sulfite, phosphate.
- Control and adjustment: setting targets, adjusting feed rates, using surface vs. bottom blowdown.
- Condensate system management: return quality, iron and copper control, trap issues, minimizing system losses.
- Failure modes and root causes: scale under deposits, oxygen pitting, caustic embrittlement, foaming, carryover.
- Reporting and recordkeeping: trending logs, setting alarm limits, working with treatment vendors, documenting program health.
